As a teenager, Eva Schloss survived Auschwitz-Birkenau. But it took her 40 years to be able talk about the Holocaust.
Eva vividly recalls the occasion in 1986 when a travelling exhibition came to London called Anne Frank in the World, 1929-45. “My mother and I were invited to the opening and Ken Livingstone, the then head of the GLC, insisted we join him at the top table.
As he ended his speech, he turned to me and said “ and now
Eva wants to say a few words. At first I was paralysed and wanted to crawl under the table. I had never spoken of my experiences. Suddenly everything came flooding out.”
Now over 80, Eva devotes her life to educating people around the world about the
importance of tolerance and respect for difference.
