Barclays Wealth to match funds for Twestival

Great news here for the IOM Twestival

Every pound raised in the Isle of Man for Twestival Global 2010 will be doubled, up to £1,500, thanks to a commitment from international bank, Barclays Wealth.

It’s part of the bank’s policy to encourage and support employees in their charitable giving and fundraising efforts through an employee matched fundraising scheme.

IoM Twestival will take place this Thursday night at Jaks Bar & Steak House, a popular music venue in Douglas.  The main event is going to be a performance and karaoke singalong witBh band Red Two members of the band, bass-player Paul Nicholson and drummer Ben Watterson are Barclay’s Wealth analysts, making Twestival eligible for the match-funding scheme.

Barclays has a long-standing tradition of supporting the community. Over the past 10 years, Barclays has invested more than £380 million in communities around the world.

“Barclays Wealth has really got behind us with this offer of match funding which will help us reach  or even surpass our goal of raising £1,000 on the night,” said Sherrilynne Starkie, Twestival organising committee member. “Remember, thanks to Barclays Wealth, every pound people spend on the night will actually mean £2 to the charity.  So everybody come out!  Have fun! And help change the lives of some of the world’s poorest children.”

Twestival (or Twitter Festival) uses social media to bring people together offline to rally around the important cause of education by hosting local events to have fun and create awareness. All of the local events are organised 100% by volunteers and 100% of all ticket sales and donations go direct to Concern Worldwide’s education projects.

It’s only a fiver to attend and in addition to getting the chance to live out your rock star dream there’ll be a silent auction, raffle and other fun, fundraising activities, including a chance to learn how to tweet in Manx!
