Crossroads Caring for Carers Home Interiors and Baby World is an up market house and home shop, selling furniture, curtains, cushions, paintings, craft items and baby goods.

His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governor, cut the ribbon to signify that the shop was officially open to members of the public. His Excellency said that it was refreshing to see a charity being proactive. It is not just about selling goods but about providing services, involving volunteers and service users.

Jackie Betteridge, Crossroads CEO, said: “We are thrilled and delighted to have received the support seen from staff members, volunteers and the community in seeing this new venture come to fruition. We couldn’t do it without any of these people and I would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support”.

Karen Thomson, Crossroads Business Manager, said: “It has been intense work developing the idea from conception but very rewarding to see the shop now open and the support from people donating goods, manpower and purchasing items, even before the shop had opened!”

The queue of eager shoppers extended around the corner of Prospect Terrace and down Windsor Road. Upon opening the doors, the crowds flooded in and did their best to clear the shop of its stock. Staff and service users were busy selling, and taking donations, and in the first 30 minutes of opening, over £1,200.00 of goods were sold.

All items sold in the shop help Crossroads provide care and support services to family and informal Carers who look after a family member, friend or neighbor with an illness, disability, mental health or substance misuse problem.

The money generated from donations and purchases from the shop go towards the charity providing over 1,000 hours of respite care breaks for Carers and over 1,000 hours of supportive services for people with care needs on the island every year.

Crossroads Home Interiors and Baby World can be found at 2 Prospect Terrace and is open Monday – Saturday 10.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m.

Crossroads welcome donations and commission items. For more information, please contact Karen Thomson on 673103 or drop into the shop on 2 Prospect Terrace.
