After nearly three years in the making, the Mannin Hotel on Broadway in Douglas is set to open its doors in April.

The 54-bedroom hotel is now in the final stages of completion and has features such as air conditioning and underfloor heating throughout the hotel.

General manager Rom Kesa, who was appointed three weeks ago, said: ‘We’re aiming to be a four star hotel and all the bedrooms are air conditioned which is completely unique to the Isle of Man. Everything is open plan on the ground floor, there’s a restaurant and bar all open to the public.

‘It’s taken a while but there’s underfloor heating so that’s another different thing. There’s no radiators inside so it’ll be warm and you can even go down to breakfast in your bare feet! It’s not recommended though.’

The five-storey hotel situated at the bottom of Broadway in Douglas also has a secure car park underneath the establishment for customers’ use and will employ around 30 staff.

Last week the pedestrian walkway in front of the construction site was removed and builders are now in the process of putting down tiles in the main reception and are waiting for the arrival of carpets and furniture.

The original Mannin Hotel was demolished in October 2012 and construction for the new building began in March 2013 by Keith Lord from Mannin Investments.

Rom said: ‘Keith is a property developer and he has done a few holiday cottages and apartments, so he saw the need for a four star hotel for the Isle of Man tourism industry.

‘We will definitely be able to compete [with other hotels]. It’s been a while since a new hotel has opened, the last one was the Ramsey Park, so we have no worries about that.

‘Keith has been very careful in choosing the right companies to use and making sure everything is of the highest quality. If you’re building something you have got to do it properly.’

The original plan was to retain the facade of the hotel but due to the condition of the external walls the whole building had to be demolished and a new facade resembling the original had to be created.

A website is being made for the hotel and Rom is hoping to organise a celebration to mark the opening in April.
