Police have cordoned off parts of Ramsey after an unexploded device from the Second World War was discovered.

It was found on Mooragh Promenade near to the BMX track and water pumping station during construction work this morning.

The promenade has been closed between Premier Road by the Ramsey Park Hotel and the bottom of Grand Island Hill.

People have been told to avoid the area and take notice of signs and barriers - however Inspector Derek Flint says people don't need to panic:

We are currently dealing what is believed to be an unexploded WW2 device near to the BMX track and water pumping station on Mooragh Promenade, Ramsey.

As a result we have had to close the promenade between Premier Road by the Ramsey Park Hotel and the small terrace of houses at the bottom of the Grand Island hill.

Access to the Mooragh Park and Parklands Nursery can be made as normal via Park Road from the Ramsey Park Hotel direction, as this is outside the exclusion area.

The road, promenade walkways and footpaths from the broogh areas around the BMX track are closed to all vehicles, pedal cycles and pedestrians.

Please avoid the area and heed the signs and barriers that have been place out.

Members of the press with enquiries are asked to contact Inspector Derek Flint, through the usual channels.

We will update you when we have further information.
