Crumbs – this really takes the biscuit!
Retail giant Marks & Spencer has defended a line of its luxury chocolate biscuit selections after Ramsey man Peter Marshall discovered that not all was as it appeared to be.
Peter was in for quite a surprise when he was dunking his favourite M&S extremely chocolatey biscuit.
As the hot milk melted the thick chocolate covering, the luxury biscuit revealed a hidden secret – it was apparently a humble custard cream in disguise!
His caption read: ‘Marks and sparks are a bunch of cheapskates.’
Peter’s dunking discovery has made headlines around the British Isles.
He told reporters: ‘I was dunking biscuits into hot milk and as the chocolate melted away I noticed that the base of one of the biscuits was actually a custard cream.
‘I’ve always held M&S in quite high regard when it comes to food, and finding out that they were using a more common biscuit as a base was a bit of a shock.’
The retailer insisted the biscuits are a luxury recipe, and the wording underneath the chocolate was simply down to the mould used to make them.
A spokeswoman said: ‘Customers can rest assured the biscuits remain our own luxury recipe covered in chocolate, they are simply made using the same mould as a custard cream. All our “Extremely Chocolatey Biscuits” are exclusive to us and contain the highest level of chocolate compared to all others on the high street. Our biscuit development team are always on the look-out for great new biscuits and welcome all ideas.’
