A night club reveller ended up being pinned to the ground, Pava-sprayed and then clamped in leg irons after refusing to leave a Douglas night spot.
George Henry Boultbee first attracted the attention of staff at Sugar Sugar, in Douglas, when they saw him behaving oddly around 12.30am.
Prosecutor Mary Kelly said 28-year-old Boultbee was putting his arms round people and appeared to be whispering in their ears, and staff felt his behaviour was intimidating to other people in the club.
When they asked him to leave, he was clearly intoxicated, having difficulty standing and appeared to be squeezing his glass tightly as if he was trying to break it.
Mrs Kelly said: ‘He was swinging his arms around and he was detained on the floor at the bottom of the stairs by staff.’
Meanwhile, a passing police foot patrol heard the commotion inside the club and saw Boultbee, kicking, shouting and swearing, being restrained by bouncers.
But when police arrested and handcuffed the defendant, he started hitting out again, kicking and screaming foul-mouthed invectiv while struggling against being taken from the club.
Outside the club, Boultbee was restrained on the floor, sprayed with pelargonic acid vanillylamide incapacitant solution and put in leg restraints.
At the police station the defendant described himself as ‘relatively drunk’ but admitted his short term memory when drunk was not good.
He said he probably reacted against staff taking hold of him, but he apologised for his behaviour. He admitted offences of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and resisting the police, both on February 21.
The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report and Boultbee was bailed on a £250 recognisance to his home address at Quarterbridge Road, Douglas, to reappear on April 12.
