As the demands of modern business continue to grow, employees are frequently working through lunch to keep on top of their workload.

As midday approaches, you’re far more likely to see a room full of office workers tapping their computer keyboards with a sandwich precariously balanced in their mouths than you are an empty room.

The company, which launched more than a decade ago, provides a lunch delivery service for people who are unable to get out for lunch comprising of sandwiches, pasties, pies, wraps, baguettes and salads for the health-conscious. There’s also a range of cakes and treats for the sweet-toothed worker who needs an afternoon sugar rush.

In-house catering facilities have proven too expensive for some businesses because of the heavy subsidisation needed. Some have decided to shut down their canteen to save costs in the economic climate which means some office workers need to take a car journey to buy their lunch – especially those based on industrial estates.

Thurrock’s Paulette Catering Services, which also has a café, Paulette’s Bakery, in St John’s Way, Corringham, and provides catering and buffet services for weddings, corporate events, birthdays, children’s parties and any social event, has come up with the perfect solution. Earlier this year, the firm embarked on a sandwich round in the Thurrock area and so far it’s been a resounding success.

The company accepts individual orders, as well as collective, if it’s within the route, which is great news for solo workers and those who are not part of a big department. 

Owner Paulette Glover said: “We currently deliver to all sorts of businesses from offices to farms and it’s proving quite popular.   

“We don’t charge for delivery which means the price of the sandwich is the same price as in the cafe. If people are based on an industrial estate and there’s nothing else around then this is the ideal solution.

“We get a lot of people asking for our boxed salads which are very nice.”
