On November 5th 1605, Guy Fawkes - a member of the infamous Gunpowder Plot - was arrested alongside explosives placed beneath the House of Lords in London. 

To celebrate the fact that the reigning monarch, James I had survived the assassination attempt, people lit bonfires around the city. Soon afterwards, an public holiday of thanksgiving was enforced. 

More than 400 years later, a huge proportion of us still attend at least one Bonfire Night or Fireworks event each year.

More than likely the original message of thanks for the king's survival has been lost to most of us. Let's face it - we just like the bangs and whizzes of the fireworks as they light up the autumn sky!

Fireworks Night at The Springhouse Sports Club & Function Suites

This year, we suggest you celebrate Guy Fawkes Night by going along to The Springhouse Sports Club & Function Suites in Corringham, Thurrock. 

The local venue has organised a fireworks extravaganza that is sure to delight the whole family.

Starting at 6pm on Friday October 31st, The Springhouse's Fireworks Party will include Go-Karts, a bouncy castle and games alley for the children (weather dependent). 

There will be plenty of refreshments, including hot dogs and other BBQ fayre outside. Bar food will also be available inside The Springhouse Sports Club & Function Suites until 9pm. 

Throughout the event, there will be a disco. The Springhouse Sports Club & Function Suites' resident DJ will be putting on a whole host of family friendly music, followed by a winning mix of timeless hits and more recent chart toppers as the Fireworks Party carries on into the night. 

And from approximately 9pm, the main event - the fireworks display - will take place. It will be managed by Wizard Fireworks, a professional fireworks company that provides stunning, bespoke displays for both private and public events. 

Members of The Springhouse Sports Club & Function Suites can access the event for free. Friends of members will be charged £5, but for such a great event, surely it's worth a few pounds?
