Books V A Kindle

So what party are you? Are you a book lover or a Kindle lover?

For me I’ve always been an avid book reader, In my dreams as a little girl I would have a library in my home, I pictured it time and time again, there would be bookcases from floor to ceiling covering every wall possible with a roaring fire in the fireplace and a big leather armchair that I could curl up in with my favourite book and spend hours reading. I just love the feel of books, whether its paperback or hardback each one has its own place in my world. A good yarn, I love reference books to cookery books, gardening and diy it doesn’t really matter as long as they well-written and the pictures are good. There is something very comforting about settling down on a winter’s night with a good book, Checking out the covers my favourite is leather, then the smell the feel, each one already starts to transport me to another land, another time, my imagination starts to run wild before I even turn the pages. For a few hours I am transport to another world, a world beyond imagination and away from all the cares and woos of reality.

But and it’s a big But, as I am one of Many people who suffer with dyslexia, reading is some times not so enjoyable. A few years ago a book came out that I really wanted to read. Christmas morning one of my gifts was that book, Oh the joy, happiness, I couldn’t wait till later that day when thing quieting down. It was all planed in my head I would curl up in the corner of the settee, a glass of something nice in one hand and my new book. Imagine my disappointment When on opening the cover I found the font and size of the print not suitable for me to be able to read the book. With my reading glasses on an armed with a magnifying glass I was still unable to read enough of the words for it to make sense. After the holidays the book was returned to the shop where by we asked for them to reorder it in larger print and a different font. Surprised we were told it wasn’t printed in any other font or even a larger print size. So to this day the book unread sits on my bookcase. I feel as if its unloved.

One thing came out of this disappointment, we were told I’d be better off with a Kindle. Has I would be able to enlarger the words. So the following year my gift was a kindle. And yes I was able to enlarger the size of the print, couldn’t change the font, but it unable me to read a few books I hadn’t been able to in the past. Do I like it?  Well its fair to say I haven’t read as many books on it as I have in print form, its no good for old cookery books has the pictures are not included on the pages. it's ok but for me its cold. There really isn’t the love of a real book in it for me. In the shop a selling point was you can store hundreds and hundreds of books on it.

Not the same as a wall of bookcases full of books is it?

So what camp are you in?
