Went with a 2 year old. Not bad but not much to do. Certainly wouldn't visit just here. We went to the new art gallery as well. Staff were pleasant but not hugely interactive.

This is a great museum, you can learn the techniques traditionally used in the local area. Something for everyone, practical activities for kids, everyone from Walsall should go

Kids really enjoyed making keyrings this afternoon, but the highlight was the staff member taking time to show them and allow them to try on leather armour. Sorry to hear that the council are thinking of closing this museum; it was our first visit and would love to come back.

We had a visit on Wednesday last and was delighted to have visited this amazing museum. I am not sure if there are any other leather museums in the UK but this one should not be threatened with closure. Every aspect of the trade is shown in different rooms and it is fantastic to be able to touch many pieces of leather in various patterns and thickness. We met Wendy, a lady who has worked in the industry for decades and knows and loves her subject. She was so helpful and informative and we could have stayed there all day. Walsall Council should be ashamed of themselves to even contemplate shutting this unique museum and turning the old leather factory into proposed student accommodation.

I loved my trip to the museum. My grandfather was a saddler and unfortunately died when I was young so to see his trade celebrated in the museum was great. Would definitely recommend for those interested!!

This is a brilliant little museum highlighting Walsall's amazing heritage in relation to the Leather Industry. Lovely building. Lots of amazing information and a superb little café with very inexpensive but good quality food.
It's free but desperately needs our support as the council are threatening to close the venue due to funding problems

I've taken a couple of classes here as part of their topics. The visit is free, with a small charge being made for optional extras like Agamemnon masks, moveable teddies etc. We even went to the council chambers once as part of our democracy visit. A cheap day out and thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Lots of different activities on offer too. Well worth a visit!

Please, if you are visiting the Leather Museum soon, sign the petition to keep it open. The council are planning to sell it. It will a sad day if it does close, the history of the Leather trade for which Walsall is famous, will be gone forever and the future generations will never know the history of the town.

I am ashamed that I only recently learned of its existence, doubly so as I a horsewoman! Embarrassed too as it was easy to find..
A great insight into days gone by and one of the trades that Walsall is famous for.
Really helpful, kind and knowledgeable staff.
What struck me was how clean and cared for it all was.
The cafe was cosy and very reasonably priced.
I really hope the council will allow this great place to continue, we will be returning!

Who knew that Walsall had such a vibrant history with the leather trade. From saddles to bespoke handbags, this muesum was a real hidden gem. The staff were friendly and enthuasatic. I learnt so much about the local history and trade in a short trip on a dull, cold, Saturday afternoon. I hope the locals know how valuable the museum is to the local history and culture of Walsall. Well worth a visit

Having grown up in Walsall I've visited the museum before but we decided to pop in again when we had some time to kill this week - particularly since there is no charge for admission!
We received a warm welcome at the front desk and were reminded of which way to head to see the galleries.
The layout is easy to follow and the galleries are in good condition. There is a mix of interactive aspects alongside informative displays outlining the history of the Walsall leather industry with lots of artefacts to look at.
The volunteers, having worked in the industry, have lots of local knowledge and experience to share. Staff and volunteers were friendly, knowledgeable and approachable and made the visit very enjoyable.
After making our way around the galleries we stopped off for a drink in the café which we found to be a nice addition to the museum, particularly with its views of the garden (which looked pretty under a blanket of autumn leaves!)
Finding ourselves back at the front desk and gift shop we browsed the items for sale and thought that there was a good range of items with prices for varied budgets.
In the future I'd love to return to see updated galleries or a new exhibition but we do intend on visiting again either way - particularly to find some Christmas presents in the gift shop!

I used to pass the museum on the daily commute several years ago and promised myself that I would visit it one day. That day finally came round today and it was well worth waiting for! The exhibit's are hands on and I didn't realise the there were so many different types of leather - but basically the same material or that you could do so much with it. The museum is well laid out and all staff are brilliant and very informative, we signed the petition against the possible closure of the museum by Walsall Council. My advice would be to visit it before its to late!!

Free to enter. Lift available for push chairs. All Staff in museum and cafe very friendly and helpful. Lots of interesting facts and different types of leather to touch. Hands on experience gold leafing and making key rings. Children from our school have also visited and took part in many hands on activities. Walsall council want to close this and move it into a small section in Walsall library. Save our culture and keep this open.

Visited with my 6 year old daughter who even really enjoyed this. The staff are lovely and the key ring making is a fab interaction and so reasonably priced starting at 50p. Considering it was half term, the place wasn't over run either. Recommend to anyone.

We have lived a few miles away since it opened and never visited ! Had a really lovely morning in such an interesting museum, made a keyring for 50p !! and went to a well run cafe for a cream tea and a coffee. Will be going there on our future shopping trips as it is only a short walk from the shops. You are really missing out on a great place for adults and kids if you haven't found it already.

I took a party of primary school children. We made a slipper and key fob. The children had a go at saddle stitching and listened to a talk by a lady who had worked in the leather industry. We also saw lots of objects and clothing made in leather. The staff were really helpful. The children really enjoyed it. There was a nice little cafe and gift shop. Each time we go, the trip gets better and better. Thankyou once again- we will definitely come back!

As a local, I've been round the Museum twice, and to their lovely cafe several times. The present site is an old leather works, and some of the staff are really friendly and, having been involved in the trade can give a real insight.

Walsall Council is considering moving it to a smaller site due to budget cuts, where most of its present character would be lost.
