I entered this attraction with a mind set of scepticism with my friend, after all - what is there to be interested about leather history and manufacture? How wrong is was.... despite entering on a quiet weekday afternoon we both found the venue fascinating in way of local history and the evolution of the industry. What made it really special was the passion which exuded from the staff, most - if not all may be volunteers. Special thanks must be given to the young man who gave an enthralling talk on the history of leather and the products which Walsall was and still is to a lesser degree famed for. This venue should be seen as a benchmark on what local museums should be like. My deep gratitude go to all concerned!

You should visit the leather museum. It is absolutly nice. The staff is adorable and would answer to any questions that you may have. The museum is full of informations about leather but also about Walsall, which is very interesting ! Wendy and Paul work as volunteers at the museum on Friday, don't hesitate to talk to them they are lovely! I had a great time there even though I was on my own. I went there twice and I will go back again for sure !

I was impressed - modern displays and demonstrations from knowledgeable staff. Not just about the leather trade but also the central part it played in the history of a Midlands town. The cafe is worth a visit too.

I visited yesterday with my 9 year old son and had a lovely few hours. The staff were fantastic and couldn't be more helpful. The demonstration in the factory room was my favourite part. Wendy and Paul couldn't have been better. They really made it! The cafe was worth a visit, very reasonable prices and again wonderful staff. An all round great place to visit.

My favourite museum! Excellent history, demos and exhibits (esp. the C17 silver thread embroidered doeskin saddle). Brilliant staff, café and parking. I keep returning although I live in N. Wales. Paula Sells

I always passed the museum in car and wondered what could possibly be interesting in a leather museum. Convinced my girlfriend to take me and was pleasantly surprised. Ron alone is worth the visit. And it's all free

There aren't many good reasons to visit Walsall but this and the art gallery make the trip well worthwhile. Excellent museum of Walsall's historic local industry.

We have driven past this museum scores of times on the way to visit our grandchildren in Wolverhampton and always wanted to visit.
We had the opportunity on Saturday and wished we had gone years ago.
Unfortunately we did not get there until 2.45. The tea room closed at 3 - so that had to be the first place we went.
A lovely little tea room with lovely lady serving drinks, cakes and snacks. The 5 of us had drink and cake for very little cost.
Then on to the museum. An hour was no where near enough time. But that's ok. We know we will return. Lots to see and do. The smell of leather is wonderful.
The children got to make a key ring each ( indeed, the adults wanted to make one too ).
They could press a pattern onto the leather.
There are 2 lots of toilets and a well stocked little sales shop with high quality leather goods as well as affordable little items for the children to buy.
There are activities on during the school holidays for the children.
It's another of those museums that doesn't sound like a " must " to visit - but believe me you will miss a treat if you don't go. And it's FREE to get in.

... That they have a little gem in their midst. Walsall leather museum is everything a small museum should be. The leather museum has polite and friendly staff and knowledgeable local volunteers who make the place feel warm and welcoming. The museum also has an excellent, very reasonably priced family friendly cafe! Again, manned by excellent staff. This really is a great little museum and worth a trip.

Coming from Ottawa, Canada, we decided to drop by the Walsall leather museum hearing of its praise all over the city. We were surprised as we walked in with the friendly smiles and the unusual smell of leather. This unique museum contains some of the friendliest volunteers I have ever seen. Allowing you to try the equipment and giving visitors the free samples, the museum became one of my favourites. I've never shared so many laughs at a museum and I recommend it 100% to anyone.

Being locals we decided it was time we visited the leather museum. What a great decision.
Although the museum is quite small it gives a fascinating insight into the world of leather production and the manufacturing of leather goods from saddles to the Queens handbags and various other items. The displays are visitor friendly and hands on and the staff are helpful and interesting. The cafe is not to be missed and the shop sells top quality leather items at much reduced prices. All in all a great place to visit so if you are in Walsall at any time don't miss it.
Its also free entry.

I have been attending Saturday courses and various talks for several years and they never fail to satisfy.

The facilities are excellent and the staff are very helpful.

There is a very adequate little cafe run by students under the careful eye of a trained manager, the selection is limited but it is what it is so if you want a light bite or a snack it is the ideal place to visit.

For visitors to Walsall who have been to the art gallery the Leather museum has much to offer, a shop, displays and food all of which are of a high standardd.

I am proud to say that I 'play' at the Leather Museum regularly and always enjoy my day.

I visited the museum for the first time a couple of days ago and it was a surprisingly lovely treat!

The staff were fantastic, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about their subject, though the superstar was Ron... An 88 years old leather worker who apparently will never retire and wants a leather coffin!!

There was a nice mix of things to see and things to do and my mother and I had a lovely time.

Will definately visit again! A+!

lovely, well kept museum, and imaginative experience - a feast for the senses! Not to be missed!! Also, great shop for wonderful gifts.

We were met warmly and welcomed from the moment we entered the museum. We were shown around by an amazing 89 year old craftsman, Ron, who enthused about his trade. We really learned a lot. A second member of staff did the second half of the tour and spoke warmly and intelligently about the leather trade. An amazing museum which is well worth visiting.

I visited the museum today with my 88 year old mother (who had worked at the factory in 1940, for a very short time doing war work) we had a fantastic time the place is amazing, really interesting, and this is helped by the staff who can't do enough for you. Paul and Ian were full of information. This place is a must to visit. Bought a lovely leather belt in the shop, great workmanship. Keep up the good work. And be sure to visit the cafe , which is run by the college nearby for some very reasonably priced and tasty snacks. Will definitely re-visit when next in the area.

As a resident of Walsall a trip to the Walsall Leather Museum was well overdue.

What a fantastic experience. The reception staff were warm, welcoming and very knowledgable. Following the route through the museum the crafts and processes were clearly displayed in the set presentations.

There were retired craftsmen and women on hand to demonstrate and explain the secrets of the industry from tannery finished product. They were able to give fascinating stories to make the experience more enjoyable and informative. Well worth a visit.

My wife and I with two friends visited on 30th December, having heard about the museum and looked at the website.

The museum is a really fascinating insight into part of our industrial heritage. The visit was made all the more interesting by the talk given by Ron, a "never to retire" currier. His knowledge and passion about the subject really brought the visit to life for us.

All of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Through this review, we would like to thank them for their enthusiasm.

Only one slight disappointment was that the café was not open on the day of our visit. We understood the reason, i.e. that the college, of which the café is part, was closed on that day. We had travelled some distance and a cup of tea or coffee would have been appreciated. However, this did not detract from a very interesting visit.

We dropped in to the Leather Museum as I'd heard it was very good and was free to enter. We did not expect to get a tour, but were really pleasantly surprised to get shown around by a lovely and knowledgeable man called Ron. He is very entertaining, full of interesting information, used to be a currier himself, and -as he told us himself - is 89 years old! This museum is already very informative, but with Ron's guidance we learned a lot about the leather-making industry. Brilliant!

Myself and my 7 year old son visited this museum recently and we spent a couple of hours wondering around and talking to the staff and demonstrators. The museum provides a great insight in to the leather industry in and around Walsall while the demonstrators provide detailed insight in to their craft. My son was totally engaged by the demonstrations and throughly enjoyed our visit. I also found the displays interesting and informative. I'm sure we will visit again!
