WASUP – World Against Single Use Plastic – founded by Professor A R Gatrad OBE, has put together a team that has started production of a play called ‘The Plastic Migrant’. Set in the UK and Ethiopia it follows the trials and tribulations of a young Ethiopian who comes to the UK as an illegal migrant with a view to secure treatment of infertility for his wife (a condition caused by microplastic in food – 85% of fish in the River Nile have microplastic).

From a family that boasted huge wealth in Ethiopia, the environmental changes from plastic and climate change have had a huge toll on his family, friends and his family holdings. Many have died from cancers and impact on the immune system. However, there is a very happy ending once Malonyo is released, goes to university and makes a fantastic discovery that will help the world, and change the destiny of mankind. Rehearsals will start in the new year.   The play will be staged in June 2023. Anyone interested can contact info@wasupme.com – especially budding actors of African origin. There will also be small parts for others – making this play very diverse.  Singing and dancing talent welcome. Visit WASUP website  www.wasupme.com
