St Matthews Church will be hosting a special Bhangra night on Friday 28th April. The Bhangra Smash Up will bring their unique Dhol beats mixed with main stream music to an audience of up to 300 in the Iconic setting of St Matthews Church, the oldest and most prominent building in Walsall.

The evening will see the church transformed to accommodate The Bhangra Smash Up and traditional Indian food buffet. Their appearance is part of a programme of Arts and Heritage events that St Matthews is hosting on Fridays and Saturdays. Community Choirs, Celebrity pianists, Heritage days and an Old-Time Sailors performance are scheduled so far with more events on the horizon.

Across the UK many Cathedrals are experiencing a revival in attendance with concerts by candle light and spectacular light shows and St Matthews in Walsall is an ideal venue to host similar and new community events .The  long term vision  is to see St Matthews host regular community performances and also  to create an annual Light Show in the church , which will grow and  extend out to 3D projection on the side of the church and along the High Street up to Gallery Square and create a new digital illuminations in Walsall Town centre

Nigel Dutton from Love Walsall “We are supporting the vision for St Matthews Quarter and in conjunction with a collection of local businesses and communities we aim to restart and support the regeneration of the local economy and bring life back into the town centre. Together with The Guildhall which is set to be transformed into and Arts Centre and a new planned Digital Hub we have a triangle of venues that will start to change the mood, bring back foot fall and support local retail and dining.”
