Residential tenants have now been given further protection as the government has extended the suspension of evictions for a further two months.
Where tenants do experience financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic , the government is urging landlords and tenants to work together and exhaust all possible options , such as flexible payment plans to ensure cases only end up in Court as a last resort .
The Courts will still issue claims but they are currently being automatically stayed and not been served on the tenants .
However, tenants should be aware that the rent is not written off and will continue to be payable. Furthermore, landlords are still issuing possession claims , even though they will not be listed for a hearing to ensure they will be at the head of the queue when the suspension is lifted
