Have you noticed recently the sun has been at its peak? Well there are certain ways that blinds, awnings and curtains can help not only with the immense brightness but also the heat.
Curtains
Since we're in summer the heat on certain and random days has really been difficult to deal with the heat, especially in the house; there is no escape unless you have aircon. Well, if you keep your curtains closed, mainly the windows that get directsunlight through out the day it helps reduce heat gain. However, this does depend on the fabric type and colour of the curtains. Of course black blinds attract heat therefore light colours are best for keeping the heat out, also open weaved blinds blinds let heat through; therefore, a closed weaved curtain will be more helpful in keeping the heat out. This also works in reverse for the winter months, if you have the heating or fire on it helps keep the heat inside your home.
Awnings
Window awnings can reduce solar heat gain by up to 65 percent on south-facing windows and 77 percent on west-facing windows. For best results choose awnings in light colors that reflect more sunlight. In the winter, you can roll up retractable awnings to let the sun warm up your house.
Blinds
Due to the horizontal slats, it's difficult to control heat loss through interior window blinds, although they do offer some flexibility. Unlike shades, you can adjust the slats to control light and ventilation. They can also be adjusted to block and reflect direct sunlight onto a light-colored ceiling, which diffuses the light without much heat or glare.
