Walsall defy logic at times! Following on from their awful showing at Leyton Orient the previous week where they lost 0-2 they pulled out all the stops against a team in the play offs, Colchester United at the Banks's Stadium. With captain Mark Hughes being sent off towards the end of the first half the supporters were dreading the thought of a second half onslaught from the highly thought of Colchester.
As it happened a terrific defensive display from the Saddlers defence and some wonderful saves from Rene Gilmartin which ensured The Saddlers kept a welcome clean sheet. Striker Darren Byfield has found himself on the bench in recent weeks and came off it in the 79th minute.Deep into time added on he raced onto a ball from Troy Deeney and held off two challenges before slotting home his first goal in 13 games to secure a most unlikely Walsall win.
