Could your dog be a lifesaver?

Did you know that dogs can give blood? And that every donation can help save up to four other dogs' lives?

387 Vets in Great Wyrley is a proud supporter of Pet Blood Bank UK, a not for profit organisation that provides lifesaving blood products to dogs throughout the UK. We host regular Pet Blood Bank UK collection sessions at the practice, and would love to encourage new doggy blood donors to get involved.

And with a national shortage, we are especially keen to hear from breeds which have a predisposition to the rarer negative blood type which only 30% dogs have. These breeds include: Airedales, American Bulldogs, Boxers, Doberman, English Bull Terriers, Flat Coated Retrievers, German Shepherds, Greyhounds, Lurchers, Mastiffs (various breeds), English Pointers and Weimaraners.

Donation doesn't hurt (most dogs don't even realise they are
donating!) they get lots of fussing and treats and a dog toy to take home. Every dog also gets a special Pet Blood Bank UK bandana to wear the first time they successfully donate.

Is your dog over 25kg? Between 1 and 8 years old? Have a good temperament? Up to date with vaccinations? And fit and healthy? Then they could be the canine hero (or heroine!) Pet Blood Bank UK are looking for!

To find out more, visit www.petbloodbankuk.org where you can also register your dog to become a donor. Or alternatively, call 387 Veterinary Centre on 01922 411755 and speak to one of our qualified nurses about what's involved.

The next collection session at 387 Vets is on Saturday 22nd November.

If you think your dog can help, we'd love to hear from you.
