Walsall entertained Notts County on Tuesday night in a game which marked Jimmy Walker's recent record breaking appearance record by various presentations on and off the pitch and it was fitting that the visitors should be his first club Notts County although he never made the first team at Meadow Lane. The first thing he had to do was to pick the ball out of his net in the third minute following a well taken goal from Lee Hughes. The striker, who has been in the news recently for the wrong reasons, gave Walker no chance.
Walsall never really got going in the first half in yet another poor showing which has been all too familiar this season. Walker picked up a hamstring injury and had to be replaced at half time by David Grof. Jon Macken was also a hamstring victim in the first half so failed to complete a match again.
Saddlers played better in the second half when substitute Florent Cuvelier came on and he looks like he could do a job in midfield. Walsall thought they had got back into the game when George Bowerman headed in but the referee ruled a foul had been committed. As hard as they tried Walsall couldn't get back into the game as the black clouds thicken.
