Walsall put in a great team effort at promotion chasing Rotherham United and came away with a creditable 1-1 draw which may have been what most could have expected but with Walsall leading for around 70 minutes it was hard to take that Rotherham's goal came thanks to a deflected shot which went in via the bar. It was Saddlers first visit to their highly impressive New York Stadium, a far cry from the Don Valley and Millmoor. It was Milan Lalkovic who got Walsall's goal on 19 minutes and what a good strike it was. Walsall set their stall out to deny the home team playing their game and it worked so well in that first half.
At the start of the second half Saddlers Ben Purkiss was booked for a silly time wasting offence which came back to haunt him towards the fianl stages when he got his second yellow card for a challenge that wasn't even a foul. Walsall held out until Nicky Adams had that lucky strike that went in. James Chambers did ever so well in the heart of the defence and all in all it was a good point but with that now being nine games without a win it was further proof that the play offs look a bit distant now.
My name is Alex Murray. I am passionate about what goes on in and around Walsall. I hope you find my blog to be interesting and thought provoking. Please feel free to give me your feedback.
