At around 10.30pm on Tuesday the Banks's Stadium witnessed one of its all time lows as Saddlers were knocked out of the FA Cup in a penalty shoot out against the Football League's 92nd club in a chronic display on a pudding of a pitch and windy conditions all added up to a miserable three hours for the 1,802 hardy fans who turned up.
As for the match itself.....Dagenham were the the better of two very poor sides and wanted it more. Dean Smith had already used up all his three subs before central defender Manny Smith received a kick in the face which resulted in him being treated for eight minutes before he was able to be carried from the pitch. So for around 40 minutes including extra time Walsall played with ten men. With the arrival of the penalty shoot out Jon Macken and George Bowerman converted with misses from Alex Nicholls, Claude Gnapka and Lee Beevers.
