Evesham MHC 1 Bloxwich MHC 10

After a long and wet journey down to Evesham the newly named Bloxwich Barbarians were desperate for three points. Despite the good warm up and rousing team talk from Coach Mallows, the team did not live up to their name and started off playing more like Ballerinas than Barbarians.

A quick counter attack and some village defending by the Bloxwich centre back Jack Phillips gifted Evesham the lead, completely against the run of play. Bloxwich were edgy and kept on pushing. Nervous shouts were coming from the team as the ball did not want to finish up in the Evesham goal despite the best efforts of the forward players. The deadlock was finally broken as Adam Baldwin got a goal, his first of five in the game, to help Bloxwich relax and find their stride in what became a very one-sided affair.

The goals came thick and fast with a short corner straight from the training ground for Steve Mallows, two goals for first team debutant Harry Robinson who gave an excellent performance, one spanked in the roof of the net by Phil Ashcroft and one for Gary Williams who then proceeded to celebrate with gusto. After a shaky start, the team played the best they have played all season and hope to take elements of their second half performance into next weeks game against Oswestry.
