Santa has swapped his magical sleigh for a bus to make a festive delivery to youngsters at Walsall Acorn’s Children’s Hospice in time for Christmas.

The special Diamond Bus Christmas Express service was a treat for the children who suffer with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

Many children in Acorns care will be unable to return home for Christmas and so Santa was delivering gifts donated by the Diamond Bus company to brighten up their stay at Acorns.

The presents included toys, video games and special sensory activity toys for youngsters of all ages.

Santa, alias cllr Richard Worrall, a member of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s (WMCA) Transport Delivery Committee, and elf helpers took the bus from the Tividale Depot to the hospice in Walsall.

Bob Baker, managing director. from Diamond Buses said: “We have been raising funds over the year by holding various charity raffles.

“We hope this latest gift will help bring a little joy to these children and their families this Christmas.”

Jackie Griffiths, head nurse at Acorns Children’s Hospice said: “Thanks to everyone involved for taking time from your busy jobs to think of Acorns in the Black Country.

“The gifts were beautiful and will bring joy to our children this Christmas. We will also use some to make the children’s bedrooms more homely as we update them over the next 12 months.”

Mayor of the West Midlands Andy Street, who chairs the WMCA, is a Patron for the Save Acorns Children’s Hospice Black Country Appeal.

He said: “I am proud to support Acorns and delighted to see our partners at Diamond Buses, as well as our own Santa, bring some cheer to the children and their families this Christmas.”
