Over 50 years ago a strong-minded and motivated lady named Miss Cartwright started a youth-based drama group called Brownhills Travelling Youth Theatre.  The word "travelling" literally meant they did not have a permanent home but performed in various schools and halls in the area run by volunteers.      Eventually they found a base in Rushall and then, in the early 1970`s, moved to St Francis School in Aldridge.  At this point in time Miss Cartwright decided to make her dreams come true and started fund raising to build a theatre for local you8ng people to use.  Over the next 5 years the money was raised.  Staffordshire County Council provided the land and Aldridge Youth Theatre was born on Noddy Park Road in Aldridge.   Aldridge Youth Theatre, a registered charity, offers weekly workshops to young people from 10 years old.  The workshops are divided into 3 age groups and are held on a Monday and Thursday evening.  The workshops include acting skills, characterisation, dance, voice techniques, mime, costume, technical (lighting and sound) and stage management.  Group and one-to-one tuition during the workshop time is offered with the skills learnt put into practice during their regular productions.    Volunteers are an important part of Aldridge Youth Theatre.  They are a registered charity run by volunteers from the local community.  As well as the management and daily running of the theatre it can take up to 35 people to assist in a production, ranging from set building to front of house to refreshments.  Aldridge Youth Theatre need volunteers to help out with all aspects of youth theatre including box office, refreshments, props, costume and programme design.  Everyone is welcome to be part of the audience for their productions.    For more information - www.aldridgeyouththeatre.org
