From the mind of an ex infantry soldier, feeling his way through the world we live in. Through the emotional highs and lows that come with PTSD, to finding peace with his family.

Ellis discovered poetry as a therapeutic outlet for his emotions during a difficult time in his life, bringing a fresh, frank and uplifting ambience.

Life after Waking includes an eclectic range of themes including philosophy, nature, humour and self-help. From deep and poignant to unapologetically quirky, this collection takes us on a journey of sensation.

Ellis recently received his first poetry award from the ‘World Humanitarian Drive’ for his Covid times poetry piece, Fiscal Fall.

Fittingly, the first poem of the book, ‘Free me Bramble’ was the authors introduction to poetry, written July last year.

Walking through the vapor forest

Attempting to find the honest

Searching for a lifetime you’ll never find it on prime time

Roads taken are roads downtrodden

Creatures led to emotional crimes

I’ll take no path

Untouched Thick with Vine

No path no path it will be

The journey is difficult

We must lift those knees

Hills sides with entanglement

This choice is no breeze

At whim

Virgin environment spew grim

Something stops me in my tracks

A Bramble snags my bare limb

O Bramble set me free

Or is it me who snags the?

With little resistance

I broke free

We broke free
