Local people can now contact West Midlands Police more easily with their new non-emergency 101 number. This number is already active in Southern England of parts of Wales but now it is being launched across the Midlands Region.
The 101 system will work by re-directing people's calls to their nearest police force - wherever they are across the country! The current 0345 and 0845 number will continue to operate the same way however the 101 number is designed to be easier to remember.
If you want to report a crime or anti-social behaviour which does not need an emergency response you should use the 101 number. In an emergency, you should continue to use 999.
This 101 number will be live across the whole of the UK by January 2012.
Callers using this number will incur a flat rate charge of 15p - this does not change dependent on how long the call lasts or whether its made from a landline or mobile.
