No Smoking Day takes place on 14 March 2012.
On the day more than a million smokers are expected to make a quit attempt and Kelcher Optometrists in Great Wryley is getting involved.
Age related macular degeneration (ARMD) is the leading cause of legal blindness for people over the age of 50 in the Western world.
The link between ARMD and smoking is now as robust as that between smoking and lung cancer yet many smokers are still unaware that their habit could cost them their sight.
Smoking increases the risk of ARMD about 3 times but it’s never too late to quit and save your vision. Studies have shown that people who stopped smoking 20 years ago have a similar risk of developing ARMD as non-smokers.
Kelcher Optometrists wants to help motivate you to take the first steps in quitting and encourage you to live a healthy, smoke free life.
Visit Kelcher Optometrists at 88a Wardles Lane, Great Wyrley, Walsall, WS6 7DY or call 01922 412040.
