Walsall turned in one of their worst performances against Plymouth under manager Dean Smith to return pointless from their long trip to Home Park after going down 0-2. The fact that the scoreline was kept down to two was mainly down to three or four brilliant saves from veteran keeper Jimmy Walker and the crossbar which came to Walsall's resue.
Just as in previous away games like Swindon and Yeovil, The Saddlers had been given a chance to push some daylight between themselves and the clubs who were below them but failed miserably.
It was a complete no-show on Saturday, a major disappointment for the 313 of us who had made the long journey to Devon. Sorry Walsall could only muster six shots all afternoon and they never threatened the home keeper. Playing 4-5-1 with only Darren Byfield upfront failed miserably. The midfield failed to get a grip on the game and it was no surprise when The Pilgrims took the lead just after half time.Yalla Bolaise shot past a helpless Walker and two minutes before the end Rory Patterson completed the job.
