The new furniture has been installed in The Haven at Walsall Manor Hospital – a room which allows staff to spend some time in a quiet space with an additional area designated for those who need more tailored mental health and wellbeing support.

Well Wishers has spent £2,124.20 on equipping The Haven with new chairs and sofas and the charity helps a number of initiatives to support the staff across Walsall Healthcare’s Manor Hospital and Community Services.

Nathalie Harris, Health and Wellbeing Operational Manager at Walsall Healthcare, said: “It is so important to be able to offer staff somewhere they can decompress after dealing with something challenging or emotionally difficult.

“They support patients of all ages in all situations, and this can take its toll if they are trying to process things in a busy, hectic work area. The Haven offers that brief respite, in a peaceful environment, for them to just step away for a few minutes and collect their thoughts. And we also offer a confidential area for those who may need additional wellbeing support perhaps around finance, mental health, or menopause to give a few examples.

“We’re so grateful to Well Wishers for providing new seating for us. The sofas and chairs are much more comfortable than the older furniture we were using.”

Devi Bemla, Support Services Assistant, and Kulwinder Kaur, Care Support Worker in Imaging, both gave the new seating the thumbs up.

They said: “Thank you to our charity for providing these chairs – they’re definitely more comfortable for us!”

Georgie Westley, Fundraising Manager, thanked Well Wishers supporters who had made donations through the charity’s Fundraising Hub.

She added: “We’ve got some really kind people across our communities who make or donate items for us to sell and all these sales add up each month. We have a number of people who also ask that staff can be supported, and this is one effective way we can do so, enabling them in turn to better support our patients.”
