Walsall manager Dean Smith admitted after the 1-2 defeat at home to lowly Exeter City than another relegation battle is in-and don't the long suffering supporters know it. Following the 'Great Escape' in May it was hoped for a much better season but from a promising start Saddlers are now just one place and one point away from the drop zone. It was hoped for a win against the side from Deveon who hadn't managed to score an away goal on their travels this season.
That all changed as early as the 8th minute when Daniel Nardiello cut inside and fired a powerful shot past Jimmy Walker. However Walsall were level within three minutes through the man in form, Alex Nicholls. Walsall looked very lively for the first 30 minutes with several good chances and Kevan Hurst hit the post.
In the 78th minute Nardiello grabbed his second of the game which turned out to be the winner. John Macken hit the post for Saddlers and Will Grigg missed a great chance to level in the last few seconds of the match. So another chance to get some points on home soil v. MK Dons on Saturday and anything less than a win could see Walsall in the bottom four by five o'clock that evening.
