Walsall completed their 2009-2010 season with an entertaining 2-1 home win over MK Dons at the Banks's Stadium and leap-frogged over the visitors to finish the season in 10th place. Walsall recalled captain Mark Hughes and he got the ball in the back of the net early in the game when he followed up an effort from Matt Richards which had struck the bar however he had clearly pushed MKD's Stuart Searle.
Walsall playing some decent football with Darren Byfield, Troy Deeney and Julian Gray all missing chances. The Dons however put away their first real chance on 26 minutes when Jermaine Easter beat the offside trap and although keeper Rene Gilmartin blocked the shot the ball ran to Daniel Powell who made no mistake.
After the interval Walsall soon got back into the game when Matt Richards slotted home but had to wait until the 86th minute for the winner. Steve Jones won a corner and floated it over to Manny Smith who nodded home for the Saddlers. This when meant they had ended the campaign three places higher than last season so Chris Hutchings side have improved and steady progress has been made.
