Walsall actually won a game..fly the flags! It had to happen eventually after just one win in their previous 15 games and the relief on the faces of the players and fans alike were there to see when the final whistle went at the end of the Walsall v. Exeter City FA Cup first round replay at the Banks's Stadium. It needed extra time to settle this tie but at least we didn't get to the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
Alex Nicholls struck the bar early on for Walsall and Jon Macken curled a shot into the Exeter goalkeeper's arms but not much else happened until the visitors took the lead just before half time from Logan. It ended a rather poor first half.
Walsall found themselves back on level terms on 69 minutes when Jon Macken hooked home from a Richard Taundry corner. Just five minutes later from yet another corner Walsall went in front when Alex Nicholls nearly broke the net with a beauty. Walsall were well on top now but instead of adding to their lead they allowed City back in on 77 mins through Frier.
Eight minutes into extra time the game was won when George Bowerman, who had come on as a sub, rounded the keeper and slotted home from a tight angle. So Walsall now travel to Dagenham and Redbridge in round two and will hopefully progress to round three.
