‘Brave soles’ hot-footed over to the Black Country Living Museum yesterday (Thursday 12 March) for a special fundraising event for Acorns Children’s Hospice.

Sparks flew when 100 fearless fundraisers walked barefoot across red-hot embers in front of cheering crowds to raise money for the charity and its vital work caring for life limited and life threatened children and young people.

Among the daredevils were families, friends, big names and leaders from the worlds of business and politics and former EastEnders star Nick ‘Dr Anthony’ Bailey.

Rachel Farrington, Acorns Events Officer, said: “It was such a fantastic night! Congratulations to the many brave fundraisers who conquered the coals for Acorns and thank you to everyone who came to cheer them on.

“The firewalk was such an exhilarating experience, if a little nerve-wracking for some, but our fearless fundraisers all took it in their stride. Their bravery and fabulous fundraising efforts will help us continue our work caring for children and families.”

The evening also saw participants and their supporters receive exclusive nighttime access to the iconic Black Country Living Museum.

Rachel added: “Seeing friends, families and colleagues come together to support Acorns Firewalk and Night at the Museum was truly wonderful, and it was real treat for participants and their supporters to enjoy highlights of the museum after dark.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us for this unmissable experience. Your support means we can be there for families who need us now and in the future.”

Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for babies, children and young people with life limiting and life threatening conditions, as well as support for their families.

This lifeline care is offered from Acorns three hospices, based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, and in the community.

In the past year, the charity has cared for more than 780 children and over 1,220 families, including those who are bereaved.

Acorns relies on generous donations and fundraising by local businesses and the local community for the majority of the funds it needs to provide its care and support services.
