We’re back at the Lamp theatre space at Brownhills Community Centre, at 7:15 on 27th July, for another issue of Spoke in the Lamp, an evening of open mic spoken word and poetry performance.
With delight, this time we welcome as headliner David Calcutt, local writer and poet of some renown. Plus open mic from local creatives. If that’s you, please bring enough of your best performance pieces to help us fill the evening with splendour. Or, if not, simply come and enjoy an evening of fine words and merriment with other great local writers at the microphone.
For those who need a theme, I plucked from the aether the word ‘Hot’. How did I come up with that? Lol
Either way, I’m sure there’ll be plenty of hot stuff, weather or otherwise.
Entry is free, but donations gladly accepted (suggested £3). Raffle tickets are 50p for great prizes. Tea and coffee are free, but there’s a bar for stronger stuff. Poetry books may be available to purchase from performers.
Please email spoke@albarz.uk ahead of the date to let us know if you intend to come and especially if you want a spoken word slot. It helps us to know.

HEADLINER: David Calcutt is a playwright and poet with a full and varied cv; books for children, plays for Radio 4 and several slim volumes of poetry amongst many other things. His new collection, "The last of the light is not the last of the light" is available from Fair Acre Press.
Having staged two of his plays a few years back, Spoke-in the Lamp is and are thoroughly chuffed to have David as our featured poet this month.
