Walsall battled out a goal less draw at Brentford to once again fail to win a game. Draws are really of no worth to The Saddlers as they are simply not breaking clear of the clubs below them and its getting so tight at the foot of the table. Its only goal difference now which is keeping Walsall out of the bottom four .Whilst its true that Walsall have become hard to beat in recent weeks they are not producing enough goal threat to look capable of winning games. Its all so frustrating.
Griffin Park was the scene for ever-popular goal keeper Jimmy Walker to break the all time appearance record for the club set up by Colin Harrison in the early 1980's and his 530 games over his two spells will certainly last for some time and may never be broken. At least he did his job and kept a clean sheet- his 155th for Walsall- but in truth he had a fairly easy time.
Walsall did create a few chances and Jon Macken and Jamie Patterson had two first half attempts on goal and after the break Alex Nicholls twice should have done better but it was destined not to happen. You couldn't fault the workrate from the players but its that extra bit of quality that is badly needed. Half the January transfer window has slipped by with no real news of any possible targets mentioned as yet. Dean Smith is working hard to get bodies in. Let's hope one or two are signed soon.
