Walsall's players signed off the season with a 1-0 win at MK Dons in a party atmosphere amongst 1,212 happy Saddlers fans who in the end had seen their team survive the drop by seven points and finish in 19th place. Something which looked highly unlikly a few short weeks ago. Has ever on the last away game of the season, may fans were in fancy dress.
Dean Smith decided to play young Will Grigg up front and this move paid off as he netted the 18th minute winner in a move from far left he beat his man, cut inside and send a curling shot into the back of the net. The hosts had already made the play offs and just like Huddersfield last week, poised Walsall keeper Jimmy Walker with no threat whatsoever.
Walsall could have won by a much bigger margain. Emmy Ledesma and Alex Nicholls were guilty of easy misses and Manny Smith had one goal-bound header cleared off the line. So Walsall reached a target of 50 points from their 46 matches but after two relegation-haunted seasons the fans will be hoping for better next season-much better.
