Tales Of Woe At Exeter

Twice Walsall were in front at St James's Park last Saturday but a series of events saw them come away from Exeter with a 2-4 defeat and still work to do to ensure League One football at the Banks's Stadium next season. The first tale of woe was when Flo Cuvelier saw a shot hit a post, clearly travel two yards over the line before hitting the other post and cleared by teh Exeter defence. Oh for goal line technology.

Walsall did take the lead through Alex Nicholls who played a lovely one-two with Jon Macken before striking home. Walsall were in comfortable control in that first period and could have added to the early goal. Manny Smith pickd up a yellow card for a foul which seemed harsh.

Walsall allowed the home side in it when Daniel Nardiello headed home despite a good first save from David Grof. Saddlers went ahead 2-1 thans to Emmy Ledesma finding Cuvelier to slot home. Thereafter Walsall faced more woe. Manny Smith was sent off for his second yellow and Exeter drew level through Alan Gow who chipped the Walsall keeper.

Exeter could smell an unlikely win now and Gow added a second with Liam Sercombe also adding to Walsall's misery. Saddlers fans came out of the ground not believing what they had witnessed. So two games to go and at least there's a three point headway between Wycombe and ourselves but a win at home to Huddersfield would be most welcome.
