Champagne is often dismissed as a luxury and only purchased around special occasions and the holidays. But did you know that champagne has some surprising health benefits such as improving short term memory? Maybe we should drink champagne more often!
Why not have yourself a cheeky mimosa the next time you're at brunch and explain to your friends some of the benefits of champagne:
Improves Spatial Memory
Spatial memory is the ability to recognize one's surroundings, as well as perform complex tasks and calculations, but studies have shown that spatial memory can actually be improved after the consumption of champagne.
Fewer Calories
Champagne contains fewer calories than both red and white wine, as a standard glass contains roughly 80 calories as opposed to wine which is up to around the 120 mark.
Heart Health
You've heard that red wine is good for your heart, but did you know that champagne is just as good? Champagne is made from red, as well as white, grapes and therefore contains most resveratrol which is an important antioxidant that prevents damage to your blood vessels, reduces bad cholesterol, and prevents blood clots.
Improve Short Term Memory
Research has shown that certain proteins found in champagne are beneficial for short term memory. It's been hypothesized that within three years of imbibing champagne regularly, but not over indulging, a person could have an increase of 200% of the memory-boosting protein in their brown. This would significantly aid in other cognitive functions too.
Improve your Skin
“Champagne detoxifies the skin with antioxidants and lightening tartaric acid helps even out the skin tone,” says dermatologist Marina Peredo. “For those with oily skin, its antibacterial properties aid in leaving last year’s breakouts behind.”
We always encourage a responsible approach to alcohol consumption. Research suggests that a very low intake of one to two glasses a week can be effective.
