Walsall wasted two or three good chances against Tranmere Rovers at the Banks's Stadium then gave away a needless free kick which resulted in the visitors taking a one goal lead-then hanging on to it to deny Saddlers a share of the points. Its a game that Walsall simply should not of lost. The worst miss fell at the feet of Kevan Hurst after just 13 minutes. After being put through he somehow missed when it was easier to score.
Tranmere could have taken the lead in the first half but Andy Robinson hit the post. The same player did find the net direct from a free kick after the interval after he had been fouled on the edge of the box by Walsall captain Andy Butler who himself felt he had been elbowed. Walsall's frustration was complete just before the end when Lee Beevers was sent off for his second yellow card.
