Rt Hon Valerie Vaz MP has criticised the Government for voting down an Opposition motion which called for fair, national criteria for financial support in areas facing additional restrictions
Rt Hon Valerie Vaz MP said:
“I am disappointed that the Government chose to vote against our motion to bring forward fair, national criteria for financial support in areas facing additional restrictions and to provide for MPs to have a vote on that criteria.
“Areas moving into Tier 3 have been treated unfairly and inconsistently by the Government, who have let down the Midlands.
“The Government have created an unfair system where different parts of the country have been provided with different amounts of support for jobs and businesses.
“We need clear, consistent and fair funding for jobs and businesses. A flawed funding formula for support on enforcement and testing is not enough.
“The Government must make good on its commitment to the British people to do whatever it takes to help us through this pandemic. We need a fair package of economic support that can help us through the second wave.”
