Following recent wins Walsall had to make do with a 1-1 draw at home to Notts County on a pitch that more resembled a farmer's ploughed field following the heavy rains which had made the surface hard going. Both sides struggled to come to terms with the pitch in the first half and understandably the football wasn't s pretty sight as the players constantly got bogged down in the mud.
Jamie Paterson burst forward and as he shot from just inside the box was fouled by visiting keeper Bialkowski. Usual penalty taker Will Grigg sent the keeper the wrong way. County acting manager Chris Kiwomya introduced substitute Arquin at half time which effectively changed the game. Notts were more lively in the second half. They drew level after 66 minutes when Arquin tapped in from close range but defender Paul Downing appeared to be fouled. Walsall had no less than three penalties turned down, all involving Febian Brandy.
