Walsall coasted to a 3-1 home victory over old rivals Shrewsbury at the Banks's Stadium to keep up their play off hopes. With other teams slipping up in the promotion-chasing pack some ground was made up on the other teams. Saddlers were watched by their biggest gate of the season helped by around 1,000 from Shropshire. Walsall's first goal came thanks to a penalty from top scorer Will Grigg, thanks to a fine run from Febian Brandy who burst through and was knocked over by a combination of Rob Edwards and Darren Jones.
Walsall were good value for their half time lead with several near misses and effectively wrapped the game up early in the second period thanks to a first club goal for Craig Westcarr and another from Wil Grigg. Shrewsbury's late goal was one of mere consolation from Dave Mc Allister. So the Saddlers fine run continues and with several games against sides around them it is, to a fashion, entirely in their own hands.
