Walsall beat Stevenage at Home

It was somewhat appropriate that Walsall should return to their brand of 'sexy football' for the visit of Stevenage to the Banks's Stadium as former Walsall manager Alan Buckley was watching from the stands. 'Bucko' was there to sign copies of his book 'Pass And Move' and he must have been impressed with what he saw. It was good to see Romaine Sawyers start a game for Saddlers and he repaid his manager Dean Smith with a goal after just 11 minutes with a side footed shot thanks to and excellent cross from Ashley Hemmings.

Walsall doubled their lead when Craig Westcarr slotted home in the second half before slightly shooting themselves in the foot when Richard O' Donnell got caught out and Francois Zoke had the easy job of steering the ball home. Late on in the game the visitors shot themselves in the foot when Lucas Akins lashed out at Paul Downing and got himself sent off. Walsall held firm however to record a 2-1 win.
