Walsall FC manager Chris Hutchings continuted his 4-4-3 formation in Saturday's 0-2 friendly defeat at the Banks's Stadium against Coventry City. It was a better performance against a lesser team than against Wolves the previous Tuesday and the players battled well against the Championship side. With the players adapting to this system better against the Sky Blues there's every possibility that it could be the line up that Walsall start with this in their league campaign.
Coventry started the better of the two sides and had the ball in the net as early as the 4th minute but it was rightly ruled out for offside. Walsall created a few first half chances and both Alex Nicholls and Darren Byfield went close.
The scores were level until the 60th minute when Freddie Eastwood fired home for the visitors. Walsall rallied and tried to get back in the game and Byfield again went close. With just a minute remaining Coventry doubled their lead when Jeffers lurking in the 6 yard box fired home.
It was a useful workout though and Hutchings rotated his squad to good effect.
