Walsall recorded their second successive home defeat to Crawley Town to leave their play off hopes in the balance following a miserable February which saw three games played and just one point secured. Crawley themselves had only been in action once in seven weeks proir to this game but any ring-rustiness didn't show on the day and they were determined throughout. You could not fault Walsall for lack of effort but effort alone don't win matches.
The visitors took the lead early doors thanks to a penalty converted by Mark Tubbs following a harsh handball decision which went against Andy Butler. Early in the second half Crawley doubled their lead thanks to Tubbs again with a header. Walsall didn't give up and Sam Mantom pulled one back to give Saddlers hope. Try as hard as they could Walsall could not draw level.
