Walsall had a great chance to pick up three points they hardly deserved against Scunthorpe United on Saturday but in the fourth and final minute of time added on some poor defending let the visitors in. On reflection though it was a fair result as Scunthorpe had more chances and shots and looked altogether superior in all they did. Walsall really do seem to have this complex of playing at home these days. The two home games last week against Oldham and Scunthorpe were two chances to bag maximum points to move up the table and restore some confidence. just one point out of a possible six reflects how hard going it is.
Walsall, somehow, went ahead in the 22nd minutes from the back of Adam Chambers neck-but,as they say, they all count. It took the visitors till the 79th minute to get back into it when Garry Thompson slotted home. Will Grigg scored an absolute peach of a volley to raise Walsall's hopes before Jimmy Ryan fired home at the death.
Manager Dean Smith said in the press after the game that if his current crop of players don't improve he will replace some of them. He made four changes before the game but if he made eleven changes there wouldn't be much improvement at the moment.
