Walsall produced an awesome display at Notts County and ran out 5-1 winners in a one sided game in which they could so easily have gone into double figures such was the gap between the two sides. A freak thunderstorm before the game left the Meadow Lane surface very wet and it begged the question who would cope better with the conditions. The first few minutes were fairly even with both teams trying to make a headway. The breakthrough came on 25 mins when Craig Westcarr found Febian Brandy with a terrific pass and the little wizzard rounded home keeper Bialkowski to fire Saddlers into the lead. Just 9 minutes later Brandy doubled Walsall's lead with a fine shot from Lalkovic's pass. Then just before half time Brandy completed a hat trick with a close range header.

The second half started in similar fashion with wave after wave of Walsall attack and Andy Butler made it four with a header. Walsall then went into an amazing 5-0 lead when the hardworking Westcarr helped himself to a well earned goal. There was only 53 minutes on the clock and Walsall were in the mood to score more. As it turned out they somehow didn't add to their score and Notts scored a consolation goal on 61 minutes through Mc Gregor. Saddlers made so many chances it was untrue. A big cheer by the 700 plus Walsall fans at the end of the game as the players made their exit.
