Andy Street, Mayor of the West Midlands and Wendy Morton MP for Aldridge-Brownhills are delighted with the “fantastic “ response to a survey that shows just how determined local people are to protect cherished green spaces in Walsall.

Andy Street launched the survey with Wendy Morton MP.  It asked residents to share their views about the Green Belt and why it mattered to them and what they wanted to see done.

The Mayor of the West Midlands can now use this valuable information to plan future developments.  He has vowed to target derelict brownfield sites for development to help protect the Green Belt.

“We are building new homes and protecting the Green Belt too!” explained Wendy Morton MP and Andy Street recently at a special meeting at Druids Heath Golf Course in Aldridge.

“I want to thank everyone who spoke out about the Green Belt in Aldridge.  The survey had overwhelmingly support from local people and clearly showed just how passionate they are about protecting our open spaces.  Now we must be vigilant.”

Aldridge-Brownhills MP Wendy Morton said local people had spoken clearly by responding to the survey which was delivered by 2,000 volunteers.

“The fact is we can build homes and protect our green spaces at the same time”, she said.  “People are telling us just how passionate they are about protecting open spaces across Walsall and we are now sharing their opinions on open spaces with the people making the decisions.”
