Walsall recorded their first back to back win of the season at Scunthorpe United's Glanford Park to give themselves a bit of hope in their attempt to survive this season in League One with a 1-0 success which took them out of the bottom four at the expense of their hosts and provided his second goal in three games for 19 year-old midfielder Florent Cuveilier who also extended his loan from Stoke City to the end of the season.
Walsall had already had a couple of half chances when what turned out to be the winner arrived on 34 minutes. Scunny keeper Sam Slocombe made a poor clearance and as quick as a flash 'Flo' pounced and zipped in to fire past the keeper from around 18 yards. It was vital that The Saddlers went in at the break with this vital lead intact and despite one or two close shaves they did just that. Walsall had enjoyed periods of play in that first half and looked the part at times.
As expected, the home side stepped up the pace in the second half and the longer the game went on the more dangerous they became but somehow Walsall were so determined and resolute and recorded a really good victory to go with the Wycombe one last Saturday. There is a hard game at Preston coming up on Saturday but if Walsall apply themselves who knows, a hat trick of victories in eight days would be a fantastic turnaround for Dean Smith's men.
