It was the home side who played the better football in the first half and they went close on three occassions. That said, David Grof, who had a spell at Notts County, wasn't really troubled too much. Manager Dean Snith kept an unchanged team which seemed to grow in confidence as the game progressed.
Will Grigg ran his socks off and a tactical substitution which saw midfielder Nicky Featherstone replaced by striker George Bowerman, saw Walsall go 4-4-2 and it worked as County had to re-assess their thinking. The winning goal came from a 40 yard pass from Ben Purkiss. Andy Butler claimed it was his touch that should decide the goal though some felt it was Bowerman's! It matters not...Walsall won 1-0 is all that counts.
